Illusioneering Lab wins ACM VRST 2020 Best Paper Award

The University of Minnesota's Illusioneering Lab took home a best paper award from the ACM Symposium on Virtual Reality Software and Technology (VRST). The work, "Towards Physically Interactive Virtual Environments: Reactive Alignment with Redirected Walking", was selected as one of the top two papers at the conference, from 35 accepted papers and more than 130 submissions.

This research was conducted by Ph.D. students Jerald Thomas and Courtney Hutton Pospick and assistant professor Evan Suma RosenbergTheir work introduces reactive environmental alignment, a novel framework that leverages redirected walking techniques to achieve a desired configuration of the virtual and real world coordinate systems.

Jerald Thomas is a Ph.D. student whose research interests revolve around human computer interaction, virtual and augmented reality, redirected walking, and collaborative virtual environments. Courtney Hutton Pospick is a 5th year Ph.D. student focused on user interaction within the realm of virtual reality while incorporating aspects of psychology, physiology, and mathematics. She recently was announced as the 2020-2021 Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Foundation Scholar.

Please join CS&E in congratulating Jerald Thomas, Courtney Hutton Pospick, and Dr. Evan Suma Rosenberg on this tremendous achievement.
