Professional Background
Jon Weissman joined the Department of Computer Science & Engineering in 1999. He was promoted to a full professor in 2012. In 2022, he won the George W. Taylor Distinguished Teaching Award. From 2007-08, he served as a visiting researcher and distinguished visitor at the National e-Science Center at the University of Edinburgh. Prior to coming to the University of Minnesota, he was an assistant professor at the University of Texas San Antonio. Weissman is a member of the Tau Beta Engineering Honor Society and ACM, and a senior member of IEEE.
Weissman's research is in the broad area of parallel and distributed systems. He is working predominantly on edge and cloud computing, mobile computing, Internet of things, and HPC, developing techniques to improve performance, reliability, and energy efficiency.
