Professional Background
Rui Kuang joined the Department of Computer Science & Engineering in 2006. He was promoted to full professor in 2021. He also serves as an adjunct professor of bioinformatics and computational biology. Prior to the University of Minnesota, Kuang served as a graduate assistant at Columbia University (2002-06) and Temple University (2000-02). He was also a system analyst for Procter & Gamble (China). In 2012, he earned the NSF CAREER award.
Kuang's broad research interests are in computational biology, biomedical informatics and machine learning. His lab focuses on developing machine-learning algorithms for problems in cancer genomics, biological network analysis and protein function/structure analysis.
