CS&E welcomes Assistant Professors Fazzini and Sun

The Computer Science & Engineering department welcomed two new assistant professors for the 2019-20 academic year. Mattia Fazzini's interest is software engineering, while Ju Sun’s focuses on machine learning and data sciences.

Mattia Fazzini

Fazzini’s research interests lie primarily in the area of software engineering, with emphasis on techniques for improving software quality. The central theme of his research is the development of techniques for software testing and maintenance. He is also interested in defining techniques for investigating software attacks and securing software. Fazzini received his Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2019. He recently won a Facebook Testing and Verification research award.

Ju Sun

Sun’s focus areas include foundations of machine learning, data sciences, and numerical optimization with application to computer vision, signal/image processing, and computational imaging. Sun received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Columbia University in 2016. Previously, he was a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University and a research engineer with the Interactive & Digital Media Institute at the National University of Singapore. Sun won the best student paper award from SPARS 2015 and honorable mention of doctoral thesis from the New World Mathematics Awards 2017.
