Professional Background
Chris Dovolis joined the Department of Computer Science & Engineering in 1982 as a lecturer and now serves as a teaching professor. He received his master’s (1982) in computer science from the University of Minnesota. Dovolis served as an advisor for the Department’s upper division from 2005-17 and served on the Academy of Distinguished Teachers Task Force on Learning Spaces in 2018, among many others. He earned the Outstanding Mentor Award in 2000 and the Morse-Alumni Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education in 2013. He was a member of the University Grand Challenges task force on attracting and retaining outstanding faculty in 2014. Dovolis also worked at the Minnesota Supercomputer Center, Inc., from 1986-93.
Dovolis' teaching interests are in the areas of programming languages, discrete event simulation, and high performance computing.
