Professional Background
Daniel Keefe joined the Department of Computer Science & Engineering in 2008 as an assistant professor and was later promoted to a professor in 2021. He also serves as the director of the Interactive Visualization Lab at the University. He is currently a member of the Association for Computing Machinery and a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He received the National Science Foundation’s CAREER Award in 2011, was named a McKnight Land-Grant Professor in 2012, and was honored with the Charles E. Bowers Faculty Teaching Award in 2021.
Keefe's research explores a broad range of topics in the areas of visualization, computer graphics, and human-computer interaction. His current projects center on data visualization in extended reality, data "physicalization" (e.g., via multi-material 3D printing), data storytelling, community-engaged co-design, ensemble visualization for climate science and other high-performance computing applications, and basic research in 3D user interfaces, haptics, and pen and multi-touch input techniques.
